STORY SO FAR
Founded in 1980 by Terry Dolan in Walton, Liverpool. Dolan trained in the Mersey shipyards before joining Harry Quinn Cycles in 1977, where he spent three years learning to braze and build frames above the shop. When Quinn closed in 1980, Dolan set up his own shop and continued the same workflow — building frames upstairs, retailing and fitting downstairs. The business has since become best known for its track bikes: Olympic medals on Dolan frames include those won by Sir Chris Hoy, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Katie Archibald and Sir Mark Cavendish, and the company's DF4 was the first British, commercially available, UCI-approved carbon track frame. Dolan now trades as Dolan Bikes Ltd (Companies House: 06800127) from a base near Ormskirk in Lancashire, with separate Dolan Steel branding for hand-built steel framesets and the wider Dolan, Cougar, Alpina and ADV labels covering road, track, time-trial, gravel and aero models. Dolan supplies An Post-Sean Kelly and is an official supplier to the Tour of Britain / Tour Series.

MADE BY
Per the brand and independent reporting: hand-built steel framesets (Dolan Steel branding, in Columbus and Dedacciai tubing) are designed and built in the UK by Terry Dolan. Aluminium and carbon framesets — including the DF4 carbon track frame and the DR1, Tuono, Hercules and Mythos road/aero/gravel platforms — are designed in the UK to Dolan's specification, with frame moulding contracted out to partner factories in the Far East (industry standard for performance carbon and alloy). Every bike is built up to customer specification at the Ormskirk workshop, which also handles paint, fitment and quality control. Component groupsets and finishing kit are sourced internationally (Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo). No published parts-by-percentage breakdown beyond this material-by-material split.
