STELLA MCCARTNEY
STORY SO FAR
British luxury fashion house founded in 2001 by designer Stella McCartney — daughter of Sir Paul and Linda McCartney — as a 50/50 joint venture with Kering (then the Gucci Group), debuting her first collection in Paris that year. McCartney trained at Central Saint Martins and was creative director of Chloé from 1997 before launching her own house. A lifelong vegetarian, she built the brand around an unprecedented commitment for a luxury label: no fur, no leather, no exotic skins, no feathers. Stella McCartney has pioneered bio-fabricated alternatives — mushroom-based Mylo leather, regenerative cotton, recycled cashmere, lab-grown silk — and remains one of the most outspoken voices on sustainability in luxury. In April 2018 she bought back Kering's stake and took full control; in 2019 she entered a minority partnership with LVMH; in January 2025 she repurchased LVMH's stake, returning to full independent ownership.

MADE BY
Designed in London. Manufacturing is concentrated in Italy: over 83% of material production and finished-goods suppliers are Italian, particularly the shoe and handbag specialists that can work to Stella McCartney's leather-free brief. The supply chain is built from small specialist workshops. Some materials follow a traceable European route (e.g. RTW viscose: pulp from FSC-certified Swedish forests, processed in Germany, woven in Italy). Cashmere is recycled from post-factory waste in Italy under the Global Recycling Standard.
