NAIM AUDIO
STORY SO FAR
Founded in 1973 by Julian Vereker MBE (1945–2000) and Shirley Clarke, with the company incorporated in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Vereker — a self-taught audio engineer — had begun in 1969 with Naim Audio Visual, building a sound-to-light box hired by film production companies, and then won a 1973 contract supplying Capital Radio with 24 amplifier-and-speaker cabinets. That contract led to the formation of Naim Audio Ltd, soon moving into a 16th-century shop in central Salisbury. Naim went on to define a particular school of British high-fidelity — green-lit slim casework, source-first system design, and the long-running NAIT integrated amplifier line. In 2011 Naim merged with French speaker company Focal to form the VerVent Audio Group, but Naim products continue to be designed and engineered in Salisbury.
DESIGNED BY
In-house Naim Audio engineering and design team at the brand's Salisbury HQ in Wiltshire. UK-based: Yes.
MADE BY
Per the brand: the vast majority of Naim's catalogue is still hand-built at the Salisbury factory in Wiltshire, where the company has manufactured since incorporation in 1973. The 2011 merger with French speaker maker Focal created the parent VerVent Audio Group but did not relocate Naim's production — Salisbury remains the home of the amplifiers, streamers, network players and the Mu-so wireless range. Naim does not publish a percentage breakdown but its public position is that core electronics are UK-made.
