LAVENHAM
STORY SO FAR
Founded in 1969 by Mrs Elliot in the Suffolk village of Lavenham, who set out to solve a practical problem: traditional wool horse rugs were slow to dry and quick to perish. Her solution, the world’s first nylon quilted horse rug, was followed soon after by a nylon quilted gilet — the first of its kind. In 1972 the company introduced diamond-quilted jackets, which took Lavenham from equestrian supplier to a wider country-clothing brand, and its practical, durable quilted designs have since become everyday wardrobe staples well beyond the stable yard. The business now operates from a purpose-built factory six miles from its original site and employs 102 artisans, all still quilting, cutting and finishing under one roof.
