ERCOL
STORY SO FAR
Founded in 1920 by Italian-born Lucian Ercolani (1888โ1976) in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, originally as Furniture Industries Ltd. Ercolani had come to Britain with his family in 1898 with the support of the Salvation Army, trained at Shoreditch Technical Institute, and worked at Frederick Parker and at Gomme's (later G-Plan) before setting up his own factory. The 'Ercol' trademark was registered in 1928. The brand's defining moment came post-WWII with the Windsor range โ a series of solid elm and beech stick-built chairs and tables that updated the traditional English Windsor chair for mid-century interiors and remain in production today. Ercol moved out of its long-time High Wycombe home in 2002 into a purpose-built 16,000 sqm factory at Princes Risborough, designed by Horden Cherry Lee, which has won architecture and sustainability awards. The company is still family-owned and is now run by Henry Tadros, the great-great grandson of Lucian Ercolani โ the fourth generation of the family.
