DUNHILL
STORY SO FAR
Founded in 1893 when Alfred Dunhill (1872–1959) inherited his father's saddlery business on Euston Road, London, at the age of 21. He pivoted from saddlery to motoring accessories with a line called 'Dunhill's Motorities' — car horns, lamps, leather coats, goggles, picnic sets and timepieces. The first dunhill tobacconist and pipe shop opened on Duke Street in 1907, anchoring the brand's long association with smoking accessories alongside fine leather goods, watches and menswear. By the late 1970s the house operated more than 20 stores and 3,500 product lines worldwide. After Rothmans took a majority stake in 1993, the luxury and tobacco arms were separated; the luxury business passed to Vendôme Luxury Group and then into Swiss luxury group Richemont, where dunhill remains today as one of its 'maisons'. The brand's London headquarters are in Westminster and it operates a leather and pipe-making workshop at Walthamstow, east London.
DESIGNED BY
In-house dunhill design studio led by the brand's London-based creative team. Headquarters in Westminster, London. UK-based: Yes.
MADE BY
Per the brand and Richemont group disclosures: dunhill leather goods and smoking pipes are produced at the brand's own workshop in Walthamstow, London. Ready-to-wear menswear, accessories and watches sit within Richemont's wider European manufacturing network — typically Italian production for tailoring and Swiss production for watches — though dunhill does not publish a country-of-origin breakdown by category. UK manufacturing footprint is therefore the heritage workshop (leather + pipes); the broader RTW catalogue is largely made outside the UK.
